The main definition of a side hustle is just a way you can make some extra cash that gives you the freedom to pursue and make money doing what you’re most interested in!
Sounds awesome, right? It is!
A little background on me, when I got married and had my first child, I knew I never wanted to have to leave that baby.
I began to try out different ways to make money from home to help out with finances and keep me busy, because three kids later, you realize with one you really don’t have THAT much to do all day!
My idea was to just buy something used and try to make a few bucks selling it on Ebay ( I know, not super original).
I figured if I found enough things to sell, a few bucks would add up to good money!
Well, I didn’t do real well at first, mostly because I was trying to sell random nick-nacks that weren’t interesting to most shoppers, and the fee’s would eat up my 2$ profit every single time!
Eventually I found my niche, and it was/is quite genius and also quite easy and so fun!
So I’m going to share my “secret” with you and hopefully you’ll go out and make some cash off of it!
Ready? Here it is… I started selling used designer jeans. Yep. That’s it.
I know, not super original, right? Don’t knock it ’till you try it! More specifically, I sold used designer jeans from Buckle (www.buckle.com).
If you don’t know, Buckle brand jeans are very popular and trendy, and they are just really super nice!
You certainly don’t have to sell jeans, you could sell any and all used trending designer clothes, shoes, jewelry, purses, sunglasses, baby gear (yes, really!)…literally, anything!
If you’re looking to make some extra money on the side, this is the easiest and funnest way to do it! Especially if you like shopping!
If you don’t know what’s trending, google what you’d be interested in selling, such as designer purses for example.
See what pops up and how much it sells for new and then go to Ebay and see if you can find anything with that brand in good shape for at least half the price.
Next, you go shopping at your favorite thrift shops, check local garage sale pages and Craigslist…ect.
I was making anywhere from $20-$40 off each pair of jeans I sold, some would sell as soon as they were listed!
That may not sound like a lot, but if you get a big enough inventory available, you could make some decent money in your spare time.
Plus, it requires you do so very little!
Virginia’s #1 Tip for making money: you can find great deals on Ebay to RESELL ( buyers don’t pay fee’s on Ebay, only sellers do), but I strongly recommend against actually selling your finds on Ebay. Keep your profits and pay as few fee’s as you can (at least that’s my motto!)!
Once I realized that Ebay wasn’t going to allow me to make decent profits ( after Ebay and PayPal fee’s) I started a Facebook Business Page that grew to over a thousand people within a few weeks!
Listen people, if you have a business or sell anything, anything at all, you NEED a Facebook Business Page, it’s free! I won’t delve further into this topic but check out my How To: Start A Facebook Business Page post, you can start your own within 10 minutes!
You can always ask me if you have any questions about this!
Virginia’s #2 Tip: Since I was selling jeans, I used USPS flat rate shipping, which was under 6 bucks to anywhere in the states! If you’re selling smaller items, USPS is a great option.
I joined buying & selling groups all over the United States ( You could even go international if you were so inclined!) and advertised my Business Page and my current jean inventory.
People came out of the woodwork, I also eventually started my own Facebook group for buying and selling designer jeans which grew to over 12,000 people very quickly!
I eventually had more kids and developed a passion to flipping furniture for profit ( check my posts on How To Sell Your First Piece Of Furniture On Facebook. and Flipping Furniture for Profit 12 Step Course -Why Every Furniture Flipper Needs it if you’re interested in this very profitable side hustle or full-time business opportunity!
