We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
With all the changes that go on with Facebook and other Social Media it does seem more and more complicated (and expensive!), to get likes and followers on your Facebook business page.
Unlike what you’ve been hearing, it is still very possible to gain lots of new “likes” and potential customers without breaking the bank…in fact, you can do it without spending a dime! Yep, totally free I promise!
Facebook was not intended to be used as a way to market our businesses, it was created as a social networking tool. That just basically means that it works best when you use it in a social manner rather than for business purposes.
When you post pictures, interesting statuses, and funny meme’s on your personal Facebook page, you will probably receive a ton of likes and comments and even shares from your friends and family.
It really doesn’t require much effort on your part…and you certainly don’t pay for the interaction! This is because you are using Facebook in a way that it approves of.
Facebook rewards you for being “social”. The more interaction your posts receive the more people Facebook will allow to see them. Makes sense, right?
You may also have noticed that the friends/family you interact with the most (i.e. like their statuses, tag in pictures, view their profiles regularly…etc) are the ones that Facebook shows you updates for everyday.
The same is true of business pages you like, if you visit them a lot or like their posts, their updates will pop up on your feed.
If you follow my blog at all you know that my sister and I flip furniture for profit, we’ve always used Facebook to grow our business and sell our pieces and it has always worked for us. The grand majority of our likes and followers have come free of charge!
*You can check out our business page right here*
I’ve got to be honest with you guys though, we have been pretty passive in our marketing. As in, we may have spent less than 2 hours in a week focused on advertising our business page…that’s on a good week!

We have 8 going on 9 kids between us, so as much as we are pretty motivated and ambitious ladies, we also have to prioritize!
If you visit our page you can see that despite our lack of consistent marketing, we have acquired a decent amount of followers, and we usually gain new ones everyday without any effort at all!
So, here are some of our strategies for getting new likes to our business page that require no money and only as much time as you desire to devote to advertising!
Join Every Possible Facebook Buying & Selling Group
You may have heard of Facebook Garage Sale/Yard Sale groups, you may already be on a few.
My sister and I are on EVERY buying & selling group in our area, which equals probably at least 50, probably more we haven’t counted!
Most of the groups have over 10,000 members…so that gives us a pretty big reach!
To find your local groups just type in “online garage sale” or “online yard sale” with whatever counties and cities are surrounding you, go as far away from your area as you want, as long as you are able to serve the people you are marketing to!
If your business offers online services or shipping, you can literally join groups all over the United States and beyond, there is no limit!
Once you are a member, start advertising! Don’t be spammy or annoying, posting once a day, or once in the morning and once at night is just fine!
Create eye-catching advertisements using Canva, which is a free App that is easy to use and gives you tons of options for graphics. I use it for my blog as well.
Basically, talk like a real person, be friendly and conversational and always remember to have a link to your business with an invitation to come check out your page.
*Virginia’s Tip: You don’t have to create a new post every day, you can simply comment on your post to ” bump” it back up to the top of the feed in the group. BUT having 3-4 different advertisements ready and alternating between them would be a great strategy!*
Post a Giveaway
This is probably the most effective way to gain new likes quickly. Everyone likes free stuff!
No matter what your business is, you can come up with a great giveaway that will get people excited and grow your numbers like crazy.
We usually giveaway a piece of furniture or home decor but if your business offers services but doesn’t sell items you could either offer a free service, a huge discount, gift cards, cash prizes, hotel stays, electronics… there’s really no limit.
Alright, so when we post a giveaway on our business page we always ask for some sort of sharing of our page.
You have to be careful with this because Facebook doesn’t allow you to REQUIRE people to share your page in order to get something from you, you’ll go to Facebook jail.
(Been there, done that!)
Wording is important. We usually say that in order to be entered in the giveaway, you have to “like” & “follow” our page, tag a certain number of friends in the comments and then we add “appreciated but NOT required” share our page for an extra entry…or something like that.
You would be amazed at the level of participation you’ll get on these giveaways!
Post Engaging Content On Your Facebook Business Page
Another way to bring in new followers is to post regularly on your Facebook page. (Remember the first part this post about the more interaction you get the more Facebook will reward you with views??)
Let’s be honest, we don’t always have clever or interesting things to post about.
Depending on what your business is about, just make sure you are posting related content either from your own work or from something related to it.
If people like your page, it’s probable they are interested in your services, they may not want or need them right now but reminding them you’re there is super important.
You want to keep your followers engaged and interested!
Even if they don’t buy right away, they are likely to share your posts with their friends and family resulting in new likes and potential customers.
Post Pictures, Surveys, And Ask Questions
People love giving their opinion! 😉 A good rule of thumb is generally try to keep your page 70%-80% sales, and the rest SOCIAL INTERACTION!
Every now and then, it’s fine to post a personal picture of your kids, pets or whatever, they usually get lots of likes and comments. Just limit those.
As much as people like to interact, they really don’t know you for the most part, and they will probably get annoyed if you do it too much and unlike your page.
As you grow, you can post those more often. You will have a more loyal following and they will feel like they know you and enjoy seeing your life!
These are just some simple and FREE ways you can grow your business.
There are also the paid options ( Facebook Ads, boosted posts…) that allow Facebook to market for you, these are good too but certainly not necessary, especially if you have little to no budget!
